Mandy Kelly, originally from Monaghan and currently residing in Dundalk, has been engaged in a three-year international struggle to reclaim her two children, Zahn and Kareem, from her estranged husband. The ordeal began when her husband unexpectedly ended their marriage while the family were on holiday in Egypt, subsequently keeping the children in the country against her wishes. Mandy’s ex-mother-in-law is seeking custody of the boys, and after losing her initial attempt, is currently appealing the decision. Mandy, who works in education, is anxiously awaiting the outcome of this appeal, hoping for a resolution that would allow her to reunite with her children this Summer. Mandy has made numerous trips back to Cairo, totalling seven since last July. Her visits have included attending court hearings and meetings with Egyptian authorities, demonstrating her commitment to resolving the custody issue. Despite the challenges, she has received support from politicians, including former local Minister Heather Humphreys, former Justice Minister Helen McEntee, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris, as well as advocacy groups, which she acknowledges…
