Details of a €373 million programme of capital projects to be progressed by Monaghan Co Council in 2024 were outlined to Monday’s meeting of the local authority. Chief Executive Robert Burns stated that the 2024 programme represented an almost 20% increase in the value of the programme compared to 2023, reflecting the ambition of the Co Council to invest in the social and economic development of the county.
The programme also reflected the need for development and the level of funding available. Mr Burns said the Co Council currently had €43 million worth of project currently on site and under construction across the county and there were more in the pipeline. Many of the projects were co-funded through the decisions made by the elected members of the Council at Budget time and in relation to the Local Property Tax.
The Chief Executive pointed out that the Co Council planned to spend €148 million over the next three years on housing provision, which represented 40% of their overall Budget and reflected serious intent in relation to addressing housing issues.
