The club season moved up a gear last Sunday as many teams welcomed their county players back in the race to qualify for the knock-out stages of the leagues. Scotstown got off the mark in Group One of the Senior Football League when they held off Inniskeen for a home win. Scotstown had four points to their name by the time Andrew Woods opened Inniskeen’s account, but with Dónal Meegan and Ciarán McNulty adding scores for the Grattans, they reduced their deficit to the minimum (0-8 to 0-7) by halftime. Woods levelled it up after the restart, but Shane and Jason Carey and Matthew and Francis Maguire helped Scotstown rebuild a six-point cushion into the last ten minutes.
Inniskeen rallied again late on, but Scotstown held on for their first win of 2021. Latton went top of Group Two on head-to-head basis after they dug out a narrow win away to Clontibret to end the O’Neills’ bid for a third straight win. Killanny and Aughnamullen both have three consecutive wins in the IFL Group One ahead of their clash this Sunday. Killanny had another double-digits winning margin when they hosted Éire Óg.
The Smithborough side stayed in touch with the hosts for long spells, but an Eddie Walsh goal saw Killanny change ends leading by 1-7 to 0-6. Danny Leegan added a second major for Killanny and with Walsh racking up 1-8, they pulled away to continue their strong form. 2020 JFC winners Aughnamullen have now won their last six games after they won a six-goal clash with Tyholland.
