As Monaghan continues to top the list as the county with the highest incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 of population over a fourteen day timescale, the Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys has said she hopes the country can begin to get back to normal from July or August. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show on Northern Sound yesterday, she said the latest Covid vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson, which is under review by the European Medicines Agency, is a “gamechanger”.
She said if approved, the single dose vaccine would allow a further stepping up of the immunisation programme. This week people in the Republic over the age of 85 began to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. The rate of roll-out in Northern Ireland continues to be much higher.
Minister Humphreys said if people tried to stick to the Covid guidelines and the vaccine was rolled out and the numbers of Covid cases went down, then the quicker the government could open up the economy again. “But we have to do it carefully. The one thing we don’t want is to have to go back to a….
