COVENEY SAYS IRELAND AND UK ARE ON COLLISION COURSE OVER BREXIT

Ireland is on a collision course with Britain over Brexit, according to the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney TD. Addressing agricultural journalists in Dublin on Friday evening, he predicted the Brexit issue would dominate politics here for the next twelve months, which he believed would be crucial for Ireland.

Mr Coveney also said the farming sector had done a huge amount of damage to itself because of the fracture in farming organisations over the beef crisis last year. His comments were made in an interview with RTÉ’s Sean O’Rourke to mark the biennial Michael Dillon memorial lecture organised by the Guild of Agricultural Journalists.

“I don’t want to be a prophet of doom; but this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. It has been three weeks since the UK formally left the EU at 11:00pm on 31st January, but the Brexit process is far from over. With the UK’s withdrawal now complete, the next stage of Brexit will require us….
