PROPOSED RAISING OF PENSION AGE SHOULD BE AN ELECTION ISSUE, CLLR. TREANOR

Independent Councillor Seamus Treanor told Monday morning’s Monaghan Municipal District (MD) meeting that proposals raising the State Contributory Pension age by two years, from 65 (if you leave your job and have no other income) to 67 years should be an election issue. He encouraged the public to challenge candidates about the issue when they are out canvassing over the coming weeks.

At present, everyone aged 66 can avail of their State Contributory Pension, no matter what their circumstances, provided they have adequate stamps built up during their working life.
