Council Cathaoirleach says proposed event is insensitive

Monaghan County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Seamus Coyle has said a proposed national commemoration of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Dublin Castle later this month is insensitive. Speaking yesterday after the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan TD announced that an event planned for next week had been deferred, Cllr Coyle said he would not have accepted the official invitation to attend. Instead he said he would be taking part in an engagement in Clones on Friday week to welcome the Dutch ambassador. Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald described the news of the deferral as being a step in the right direction, but said it needed to be cancelled in full. Carrickmacross based…
