Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Arts, Culture and Heritage and Cavan-Monaghan TD, Niamh Smyth, has expressed a number of reservations in relation to an application for a prospecting licence by Great Glen Resources Ltd for a number of townlands in Co. Cavan. Deputy Smyth, who attend a public meeting organised by ‘Redhills Action Against Mining’ in Killoughter Hall this week, said it was important that the Minister take account of the local concerns which have been well documented.
She has also written to Minister Bruton to outline her disappointment that the local community has not been given an opportunity for a meaningful consultation ahead of the request for this licence.
