HSE’S €4 CHARGE FOR TRANSPORT TO DAY CARE CENTRES CONDEMNED BY MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCILLORS

There were two very similar motions of urgent business before Monday’s afternoon’s meeting of Monaghan County Council, one from Sinn Féin, introduced by Councillor Colm Carthy and the other from Independent Councillor Paudge Connolly. Since the two were on the same subject, i.e. transport charges for people using the collection and drop-off service from HSE Day Care Centres, Independent Councillor Connolly seconded Cllr. Carthy’s motion.

The motion of urgent business that was unananimously supported read: “Monaghan County Council calls on the HSE to immediately reverse their decision to implement a return €4 daily charge to those with a bus pass using collection services to, and from, day care services.

“We highlight our concern that the most vulnerable people in our society will be hit with this expense and that those attending day care services five-days-aweek will be expected to pay almost 10% of their income on transport (approx. €1000 per annum); “Families with more than one member using these services will be hit with multiple charges.
