Spring Clean in 2016 has seen a massive effort by almost 50 communities, school and other groups in County Monaghan. Thousands of pieces of litter have been removed by these volunteers from roads, hedges, lane ways and streets of the County. It’s just a pity that it is there in the first place.
Saturday the 14th will see one of the biggest Spring Clean events, not only in County Monaghan but in the Country, when up to 100 volunteers will litter pick up 30km of carriageway on the Castleblayney By Pass N2. The road will be closed for traffic to allow the litter picking and other essential maintenance works be carried out.
In attendance at the launch was Cathoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Cllr. Noel Keelan who commended the effort of Casteblayney Tidy Towns and Sarah McGovern, Spring Clean Ambassador who said “The effort being made in County Monaghan during Spring Clean and in particular Castleblayney Tidy Towns is an inspiration to other Counties”
Monaghan County Council’s Environment Section and Castleblayney Tidy Towns have enlisted the help of a number of sporting organisations from the greater Castleblayney area to help out on the day. In return for this volunteerism the Environment Section is offering a sponsorship opportunity to the Clubs as part of the Council’s anti litter awareness campaign.
