An event promoting an awareness of positive mental health is set to take place in Clones at the end of the month.
The event, which is entitled ‘Speak Your Mind For Your Mind,’ will be led by Clones Youth Council and will take place in The Peace Link, Clones on Saturday, 27th February from 2pm – 5.30pm. It has been organised by Youth Work Ireland Monaghan’s Amber Flag Initiative, in conjunction with Clones Community Forum.
Addressing Clones Community Forum’s AGM last Thursday evening, members of Clones Youth Council, Hannah McCaughey and Ciara Toal, spoke about how this event aimed to promote positive mental health in the local community. It hopes to remove the stigma surrounding the issue and leave people feeling unafraid of talking about it.
Speakers on the day will include local woman Mamo McDonald, Oisin McConville and Tony Ward. Local groups will also have stands showcasing how they support good mental health. Hannah and Ciara added that signs will also be placed at approach roads into Clones stating that the town supports positive mental health.
As part of this event and in a bid to promote it, Clones Youth Council hosted a canvas project in Largy College yesterday, Wednesday. Students were invited to paint a circle on the canvas in a colour that best represented their mood on the day. The canvas was called ‘Moods’ and it was hoped that when completed it would be put on display in the Ionad na nÓg youth centre in the Clones. The centre has been newly renovated and is due to reopen in a few week’s time.
