CROSS-BORDER TASK FORCE ON ORGANISED CRIME TO HAVE ITS FIRST MEETING SOON

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan T.D., has said arrangements are well in train for the first meeting of the newly established Joint Agency Task Force to combat cross-border organised crime. He said all-island crime was a legacy issue arising from the troubles that needed to be addressed by a multi-force agency.

In an interview with the Northern Standard during a visit to Belfast last week, Mr Flanagan said it was intolerable that

there could be a perception that a blind eye was being turned to criminal activities. He said the relationship between the Gardaí and the PSNI was the best ever, with good co-operation and sharing of information. This would now be intensified, he said.

Mr Flanagan explained that a deputy Garda Commissioner and the PSNI deputy Chief Constable would jointly chair the new body. It would act as an ….
