ONLY LIMITED NUMBER OF UNFINISHED ESTATES TO BENEFIT FROM PROPERTY TAX WAIVER

Monaghan Co Council was told on Monday that only a limited number of unfinished housing estates in the county would benefit from a property tax waiver under stringent qualification regulations in this regard laid out by the Dept of the Environment.
Referring to details about the property tax waiver the Council had been furnished with, Acting Co Manager David Fallon said the Council’s planners had conducted an inspection of all 38 unfinished housing developments in the county and only four came into the category for a waiver as defined by the Dept. It was estimated that only 42 houses would receive a waiver, and the rest would be liable for the local property tax.
Mr Fallon said the estates in question were Cornaglass in Ballybay, where approximately four dwellings would qualify; Candlefort, Inniskeen, where approximately six would be eligible; Rock River View in Rockcorry (approx. eight), and Killycard Manor in Castleblayney, where the remaining eligible dwellings were located.
When Jackie Crowe referred to the Church Heath estate on the Dundalk Road in Castleblayney, Director of Planning Services Paul Clifford said it did not qualify. The criteria in relation to the waiver were stricter than the categorisation of unfinished developments, which were defined in four separate categories.
“It is only the worst cases and the strictest interpretation of that which will qualify,” Mr Clifford stated.
