MONAGHAN SCOR NA NOG CELEBRATE ON THE DOUBLE

It was celebrations on the double in Derry on Saturday evening last as Monaghan’s two entrants in the All Ireland final of Scor na nOg both brought titles back to the county, the first time that two National titles came to the county in the one year.
The Drumhowan Instrumental Music Group, who have already featured on RTE television played their way to victory with an almost perfect performance while Clones lad Colm Kirk also took top spot with his very imaginative and dramatic recitation The Cross-eyed Monaghan hurler. The narrative written by Emyvale man Mark Skinnader has enough twists and turns that would do justice to any story of intrigue but Colm’s delivery and interpretation were pitch perfect to leave him in pole position when the judges announced their verdict.
In what was a great night and a testament to the talent that there is in Monaghan and the work that is being done by so many people in the clubs the two victories brought great delight to the big travelling contingent from the county.
And the celebrations didn’t end there as the winners from both clubs were greeted and applauded at special receptions in Tullycorbett and Clones.
