MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL SUPPORTS PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY THROUGH NATIONAL JOB SHADOW DAY

Job Shadow Day, sponsored by IrishJobs.ie is a great opportunity to promote and encourage an inclusive workplace. Jobseekers gain an insight into a particular job or professional field by joining up for the day with a business in their community. Participants explore the world of work by ‘shadowing’ someone in the workplace as they go about their normal working routine.

For the second year, Monaghan County Council has teamed up with Drumlin House training centre to support Job shadow day in county Monaghan. Social inclusion development officer with Monaghan County Council says “This is a wonderful initiative that benefits both participants and organisations alike.

Taking part in job shadow day can really boost the confidence of participants and support their progression into the workforce. It also promotes diversity in the workplace and raises awareness of abilities and the valuable and much needed contribution people with a learning disability can bring to the work environment”.

In 2104, six participants from Drumlin house training centre for people with a learning disability “shadowed” staff in Monaghan county council as they went about their day. This year the number of participants has grown to thirteen. Bernie Bradley goes to say
