The perfect antidote to the recession was provided by Magheracloone’s Brendan McCahey winning The Voice of Ireland on Sunday night last.
Deirdre Crookes, who looks after Public Relations for the RTE ONE programme said that Brendan was universally loved by all involved in the production of the national singing competition.
The fact that the final result was decided by the public votes also meant that Brendan truly was “the people’s champion,” she stated.
Brendan was on Team Bressie, and during the final his mentor said: “The only thing Brendan hasn’t done is gangsta rap. You are ready to record an album, you are that good.”
Rival judge Kian Egan also had no hesitation in nailing his colours to the mast either, when his acts were eliminated from the competition, stating: “I really hope the right person wins – Brendan deserves it.”
A civic reception took place in Carrickmacross on Monday evening last in Brendan’s honour. Full coverage of this event can be found inside this week in Carrickmacross News page 44.
