CYBER BULLYING AND DRUGS FORM AGENDA FOR MONAGHAN PUBLIC POLICING FORUM

Presentations on cyber bullying and the dangers of drugs formed the major part of the agenda for Monday night’s public meeting of the Monaghan Town Joint Policing Committee.

Previous opportunities for members of the public to engage with the JPC on law and order issues drew poor attendances, but on this occasion there was a significant representation of the local community present in the Town Hall Suite of the Westenra Arms Hotel for what was, ironically, the last event to be staged by the committee before it ceases to exist as a consequence of pending changes in the administration of local government.

After the May 23 local authority elections a single JPC for Co Monaghan will be appointed and the town JPCs, linked to the soon to be abolished Town Council structure, will no longer operate.

Concerns over public drinking in the Peter’s Lake area of the town seemed the prompt for the attendance of section of the audience, and a detailed discussion on issues arising from the problem took place (see separate story inside).
