Monaghan Co Council had removed almost 2,000 names of people deemed ineligible to vote from the county’s electoral register since October of last year. It was stated in the management report before Monday’s meeting of the local authority that work to remove ineligible electors formed part of a new LGERS or Local Government Electoral Registration System project. The report said that another 500 names were currently in the active deletion process – legislation required that the Council make three documented attempts to contact an elector prior to their removal.
