A man has been arrested and charged after being found to be in possession of cocaine and offensive weapons in Monaghan Town. The individual had his vehicle stopped by members of the Garda Divisional Drug Unit at Church Square in the town on Saturday night last, September 7. Gardaí said that in the course of a search a knuckle duster, hammer, hunting knife, a burner phone, deal bags, a small quantity of cannabis herb and a small quantity of cocaine were located in the vehicle. The items and the vehicle were seized. The man when searched was found to be in possession of nine deals of cocaine which have an estimated street value of €770. Mobile phones in the individual’s possession were also seized pending analysis. The man was arrested on suspicion of the sale and supply of controlled drugs and interviewed at Monaghan Garda Station. He was subsequently charged at a sitting of Monaghan District Court. Gardaí confirmed this week that a file on the matter has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
