ANNAHAGH LAND DEAL PAVES WAY FOR MORE INDUSTRY AND JOBS FOR MONAGHAN

Significant industrial expansion in the Annahagh area of Monaghan will be facilitated by land acquisition developments detailed at Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District. The elected members gave their approval to the acquisition by Combilift of two plots of land in local authority ownership in the area, and the reciprocal acquisition by the Co Council of a separate piece of ground from the forklift manufacturer.

The agreement will facilitate expansion plans by Combilift and open up nearby land for future industrial development and job creation by other businesses. Details were outlined to the meeting by Municipal District Co-ordinator Donal McElwain. Proposing approval, Sinn Féin councillor Seán Conlon said this was a very unique and positive development for the local authority, local business and the people of Monaghan. The sale and exchange of land between Monaghan Co Council and Combilift conveyed very clearly that the local authority was a pro-active agency in the promotion of business and willing to work with businesses that were expanding. “This will no doubt lead to an increase in employment,”

Councillor Conlon predicted. He said the development would facilitate the creation of a link road to service businesses in the area and provide a land bank to be zoned for commercial and industrial use. Councillor Conlon said he was currently facilitating an industrialist who was keen to establish a manufacturing and training facility in this area. The agreement had already gone through all the necessary processes and he thought its approval represented a very positive day for the local authority.
