€250,000 in funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme to carry out public realm works to enhance the streetscape and surrounds of the historic Market House building in Ballybay was announced this week. Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys TD confirmed the allocation on Monday. The 1848 building is to be the subject of a major regeneration initiative which will see it brought back into use as a community hub and home for the town’s library.
The project has already received €410,000 in Rural Regeneration and Development Fund support and €1.25 million for the library element. Minister Humphreys on Monday also confirmed an allocation of €250,000 for the restoration and refurbishment of St Mary’s Hall at Urbleshanny in Scotstown, and a further grant of €250,000 to enable Clones Youth Centre to upgrade its premises at Church Hill in the town (see separate stories inside this week’s edition). The Co Monaghan allocations are part of a €20 million package of Town and Village Renewal Scheme measures.
