The members of the Monaghan Municipal District are to seek a meeting with representatives of the Uisce Éireann utility (formerly Irish Water) in an effort to expedite progress on sewerage connections to parts of Monaghan Town where significant lands for potential housing and other development are located. The MD members agreed the strategy at their monthly meeting last Monday, when calls were also made on Uisce Éireann to speed up assessments necessary for the process of the taking in charge by the local authority of housing estates to be completed.
Peadar McGuinness of Monaghan Co Council’s Environmental and Water Services Section in a report to Monday’s meeting stated that there were quite a lot of estates in Co Monaghan in the taking in charge process at present which were with Uisce Éireann for comment and assessment. While there had been a bit more traction in recent weeks in getting responses back from Uisce Éireann and getting estates over the line, there was still a fair bit of work to do in getting the remaining applications finalised, Mr McGuinness stated.
