SOCCER CLUB AND RESOURCE CENTRE COMBINE IN YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

Monaghan Town FC and the Teach na nDaoine Family Resource Centre in Monaghan Town have come together in a health and wellbeing initiative aimed at young people. They have partnered with the Connecting for Life team at the HSE to work with young people from their local area with a view to reawakening their interest and involvement in sport. Leading the programme is Mickey Bravender and Martin Mc Donald from Teach na Daoine Family Resource Centre who will be working directly with the young people in developing the programme going forward.

A specially designed jersey will be worn by the Monaghan Town U-19 team as a way of promoting the programme and opening conversations about the importance of looking after mental health and well-being as a community. Emer Mulligan, Suicide Prevention Officer with HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service stated” “It’s great to be able to support this initiative which encourages young men to participate in sport and connect with their peers. Staying active and connecting with others are two of the key building blocks of positive mental health and well-being.”
