Rockcorry is to be provided with a localised, specially licensed taxi service as part of a national one-year pilot programme which Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD says will “help improve transport choices for people living in rural locations across the country.” Twenty locations are included in the Local Hackney Pilot Programme, described by Minister Ryan’s Department as “designed to encourage new parttime local hackney services to operate in communities which could not support a full-time taxi or hackney operation.”
Applications to take part in the initiative can be made at www.localhackney.ie. All drivers will be licensed, insured and Garda -vetted and will be able to pick people up from their doors to drop them to where they want to go.
