Monaghan Co Council on Tuesday supported a proposal from Sinn Féin representative Pat Treanor, seconded by his party colleague Noel Keelan, calling on the Department of Health to introduce employment supports and emergency medical card provision to assist sufferers of Long Covid. Welcoming a response from the office of the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly TD to previous Co Council representations on the issue (see below), Councillor Treanor referred to statistics indicating that between 10-20% of people who contacted Covid-19 went on to develop Long Covid.
He had been dealing with a number of situations, including the case of a person who had to give up work because of the condition. “The Department of Health has apparently not yet worked out a proper model of care for sufferers,” Councillor Treanor stated, adding that it was important that the Co Council registered its desire that the Department introduce an emergency medical card for those suffering from the condition.
