A very tight schedule confronted the completion of a new public car-parking facility at the Broad Road in Monaghan Town in time for the Christmas trading period, it emerged at Tuesday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District. The Broad Road car-park development had now been submitted for Part VIII planning approval and a decision on this was due to be made at the November meeting of Monaghan Co Council, it was stated at the meeting in response to a written question submitted by the Cathaoirleach, Fianna Fáil representative Raymond Aughey.
The response added that the construction works had been tendered on the e-tenders portal with a closing date of October 14. During the meeting, Fine Gael’s David Maxwell said he wasn’t happy at all about the situation. “This is not going to be ready for Christmas – not a hope,” Councillor Maxwell declared, asking why the project was taking so long. “We will be crying about carparking in November,” he predicted.
