NATIONAL BROADBAND PLAN MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME IN MONAGHAN – CEO

The implementation of the National Broadband Plan in Co Monaghan was recovering from the delays attendant to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and was gathering pace, stated Chief Executive Officer of National Broadband Ireland T J Malone in a presentation to the members of Monaghan Co Council on Monday. “With Covid-19 we got off to a slow start but we have been making significant progress in recent months,” Mr Malone stated. Introducing the presentation, Co Council Cathaoirleach Councillor Seán Conlon said Mr Malone’s presence at the meeting had been requested primarily because councillors felt the NBP rollout in the county was not proceeding as quickly as they would like.

The CEO said that the NBP plan was the biggest telecommunications initiative ever undertaken in the State. “Ireland is probably the only country in Europe that has signed up to say that no home will be left behind in high-speed broadband provision,” he stated. “The Government has given this commitment.” Co Monaghan had been very pro-active and was one of the best counties they had worked with, the National Broadband Ireland chief added.
