One of the last duties to be performed by the occupants of the Chair position on Monaghan Co Council and Monaghan Municipal District before they vacated office on Monday was to participate in a tour of the €15 million+ Monaghan Peace Campus development now becoming a significant feature on the Monaghan Town skyline as construction work proceeds. Outgoing Co Council Cathaoirleach Aidan Campbell and his Monaghan MD counterpart David Maxwell were left very impressed by the Monaghan Peace Campus vision that is taking shape on its town centre site at The Plantation.
Accompanied by local authority engineering personnel Declan McKenna and Alan Hall the First Citizens saw evidence of significant progress on the project – which will house the Monaghan Branch Library, Monaghan Co Museum and facilities for a range of community organisations involved in youth, integration and reconciliation activities. “This will be a magnificent facility for the town,” Councillor Maxwell stated at Monday’s Annual Meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District when reflecting on Friday’s tour opportunity.
