The major Clontibret to the Border road project on the N2 is now facing suspension after failing to receive funding in 2022. The management report before the members of Monaghan Co Council at their meeting on Monday stated that, as of April 19, no funding had been made available to the scheme, and the Council was in discussion with Jacobs Consulting Engineers in relation to their design contract.
“It is hoped that a suspension of the current contract can be agreed, with a view to the contract status being reviewed early next year once the 2023 allocations are known,” the report stated. Senior Roads Engineer Gareth McMahon said at Monday’s meeting that there had been a feeling that, because the construction company Roadbridge had gone into liquidation and that had an impact on a major road project planned in Co Roscommon, there was a possibility that national roads funding would be redistributed. But the Co Council had received confirmation from Transport Infrastructure Ireland that there was no change at this stage in the national roads funding announced for 2022.
