Local motorsport ace Josh Moffett in his Hyundai i20 R5 co-driven by Jason McKenna claimed a start-to-finish victory when the Monaghan Stages Rally returned on Sunday last for the first time in three years. The resumption of the event following the Covid-19 lockdown saw Moffett and McKenna finish 12 seconds ahead of the Ford Fiesta WRC of Sam Moffett and Keith Moriarty. The event formed Round Three of Motorsport Ireland’s National Rally Championship. Regarded as the largest sporting event annually staged in Co Monaghan because of the number of spectators and participants it attracts, the Stages Rally is now named in honour of Monaghan Motor Club legend Ronnie Hawe. Our picture by Rory Geary shows winners Josh Moffett (right) and Jason McKenna celebrating their victory with members of the Hawe family – Lee-Ron, Kai and Tom – at the finish line ramp on Sunday evening. See inside for more photographic coverage and reportage of the event.
