CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN COLLAPSE AT EUROS PROMPTS CO COUNCIL CATHAOIRLEACH’S DEFIBRILLATOR CALL

The dramatic incident during Saturday’s European Championship game between Denmark and Finland, when Danish player Christian Eriksen had to receive life-saving treatment on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest, prompted the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Co Council on Monday to call for the production of a countywide map which would highlight the locations of AED or Automated External Defibrillator units.

Speaking at what was his last official meeting in the Council Chair, Sinn Féin’s Colm Carthy said the weekend had seen the eyes of the world on a victim of cardiac arrest when Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed during a Euro 2020 game on Saturday. The Cathaoirleach said the incident not only brought into focus how quickly a cardiac arrest could stop someone in their tracks, but it showed the necessity for a high volume of people to know first aid and CPR. It also showed the importance of a defibrillator being used quickly to help in such situations.
