PRIDE FLAG RAISED AT MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL HQ

Support and solidarity for Co Monaghan’s LGBTQ+ community was demonstrated with the raising of the Pride flag at the headquarters of Monaghan Co Council at Glen Road in Monaghan Town on Monday morning last. Outgoing Cathaoirleach Colm Carthy performed the flag-raising for the second time during his tenure. Councillor Carthy became the first Cathaoirleach to officially raise the Pride flag at a local authority building in the county a few days after he took office in June 2020 and was able to replicate the function due to his term of office extending into a later date in 2021. Speaking at the event, the Cathaoirleach stated:

“It is a huge honour for me to raise this flag. June is Pride month each year and this flag represents our solidarity and support for our LGBT+ family and friends here in Co Monaghan. “I want to commend Co Council Inclusion Officer Bernie Bradley, who has organised this event and facilitate the rising of Pride flags at every Council-owned building in the county with a flag pole. Bernie has also confirmed that some buildings without poles will be hanging rainbow bunting instead. “I would also like to pay tribute to Cavan and Monaghan Rainbow Youth ….
