MINISTER RYAN SAYS INTERCONNECTOR REVIEW TEAM WILL BE APPOINTED SHORTLY

During a Dáil session last week, Sinn Féin Deputy for Meath East, Darren O’Rourke, once again tackled the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, about the North South interconnector. He asked him when the recently announced review of the project would be published (a review of previous reports by international experts that backed the rationale for EirGrid’s plan to construct the high voltage electricity line with 400 pylons as an overhead line).

Minister Ryan told him the aim was to complete the review as quickly as possible. He informed Deputies that the process would take “a short number of months” and said the team to carry out the review would be appointed shortly as it was “important for all concerned that we get clarity on this and it reaches a conclusion.” Deputy O’Rourke reminded the Minister that the review would not assuage the concerns of residents who he said “see it for what it is, that is to say, another….
