Two teams in urgent need of a moraleboostingTwo teams in urgent need of a moraleboosting win cross paths when Monaghan and Galway contest this Sunday’s Allianz NFL Division One relegation play-off in Clones. Monaghan and Galway have just one win to their name between them since March 2020; having both seen their form tail off since inter-county action resumed after the first lockdown last year.
Monaghan have put themselves into winning positions on several occasions since, but they still await a first competitive win since the February 2020 league game at home to Mayo; having drawn four of their last six in normal time, against Meath, Cavan, Donegal and Tyrone. Galway, meanwhile, were top of the NFL Division One table when the league restarted last October, only to lose their last two games. They went on to receive a walkover from Sligo in the Connacht championship, before being edged out by Mayo in the provincial final.
