CO COUNCIL TO GET EXPERT ADVICE ON LACK OF TOWN AND VILLAGE PRIVATE HOUSING;
“DEZONING” LAND COULD BE PERILOUS APPROACH, MEETING TOLD
What contribution people “hoarding” land zoned for housing in Co Monaghan was having on the lack of private housing development in most of the county’s towns and villages was debated at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council during a discussion on the progress of the Council’s current Co Development Plan. While some members advocated the dezoning of land which had been earmarked for housing but had not seen any development take place, the exposure of the Council to possible legal challenge if such a step were taking during the lifetime of a Development Plan was referred to by Senior Planner Adrian Hughes.
Mr Hughes said that the Council intended to undertake a study and consult expert advice to determine the reasons for the underdevelopment of zoned housing land in the county.
