15-2 VOTE GIVES GREEN LIGHT TO PROJECT
The building by Monaghan Co Council of new civic offices at Rooskey in Monaghan Town will not result in a “trophy building” but a functional and modern structure that would be fit for purpose for the next 50 years, the local authority’s Chief Executive Eamonn O’- Sullivan stated on Monday. Mr O’Sullivan was speaking at a special meeting convened in Monaghan’s Garage Theatre at which the elected Council members voted 15-2 to effectively green-light the civic offices project, which is scheduled to begin construction in the second quarter of 2023 and be ready for staff relocation in the second half of 2025.
the rationale for the project as outlined in a presentation to the meeting by the Co Council’s Director of Services for Capital Project Management Cathal Flynn and financial management accountant Olga McConnon centred around the venerability of the Council’s existing headquarters at the Glen, which was constructed in 1984, and the disseminated nature of local authority service provision in the county, a good deal of which is delivered from rented premises and which generates a cumulative cost to the Council of in excess of €900,000 per annum.
