MONAGHAN POULTRY PRODUCERS EXTEND HELPING HAND TO CAMBODIAN CHILDREN

Poultry producers from Co Monaghan have joined with colleagues in counties Cavan, Louth and Meath to provide major support for a project in Cambodia which is providing a lifeline to local children. Through the An Sicín Coop, the poultry men are aiding a chicken rearing project established at a Cambodian school. Co-op Chairman Pat Mc- Cormick became aware of the school-based project after hearing a podcast of an interview on Northern Sound radio.

Carrickmacross-based retired teachers Dave Phelan and his wife Niamh Boylan have been teaching teachers for over three years in a rural school outside Siem Reap. The parents of the 135 children depended on tourism to the famous temples of Angkor Wat for their income. But, in March 2020, due to the growing threat of Covid-19, Cambodia closed its borders.
