The death took place on Friday morning, 8th January, of Eddie Gallagher of Highfield Close, Killygoan, Monaghan town. A highly regarded and long time resident of the county town, the late Mr. Gallagher was a native of the Glaslough area of Co. Monaghan. In his 80th year, Eddie is survived by his wife Mary and by their family Patsy, Cathy, Teresa, Eamon, Collette, John, Margaret, Edward and Martina, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and by his grandchildren.
He is also mourned by his brother Hugh and sisters Maureen, Rose, Tess, Josie and Dolores and by their respective families. The late Mr. Gallagher had worked for many years in England before returning home to Ireland in 1972 and subsequently meeting, marrying and setting up home with Mary. Of strong republican beliefs, the deceased gave stalwart service to his home community, county and the constituency of Cavan Monaghan as the anchor presence in the Sinn Féin office in Monaghan town over many years.
