PARKING ISSUES AT ROSSMORE

At Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District, Fianna Fáil councillor Raymond Aughey called for liaison with the forestry authority Coillte to investigate the possibility of expanding car parking facilities at the front gate and to the right of the footbridge at Rossmore Forest Park, “with safety for all park users in mind”.

He was informed that the Municipal District would liaise with Coillte and explore additional car parking at the amenity. Councillor Aughey also asked if it was possible to have No Parking signs installed at the barrier at the bottom of the castle hill in the park and at entrance locations on the Cootehill Road and Killyconnigan, stating that this would be important in case an ambulance needed to access the park. “We know how busy the park is,” he stated.

Municipal District Co-ordinator Donal McElwain said there was a No Parking sign on the Cootehill Road and he would check the other locations out. David Maxwell (Fine Gael) said he had also received a number of complaints about this matter. It was not even on days when the car park was full….
