FORMER Ulster GAA president and executive member of Central Council, Aogán Ó Fearghail of Co Cavan and Drumgoon GFC has confirmed that he is to run for the GAA presidency in a vote scheduled for February of next year.
The Ulster GAA Management Committee and the Cavan County Committee have both signalled unanimous support Mr Ó Fearghail’s nomination.
In advance of his campaign for the top spot, Mr O’Farrell, the school principle at Dernakesh NS said a combination of passion, ability and a structured approach were among the components he was promising to bring to the GAA Presidency.
“Governance is key, and I will continue to work to ensure that the fabric of the club, uniquely defined by its local community, remains at the heart of the GAA,” he said.
At last Tuesday’s meeting of the Ulster GAA Management Committee, the members unanimously endorsed and supported the candidacy of Mr Ó Fearghail’s for the GAA Presidency.
Ulster GAA President Martin McAviney said: “Aogán has given significant service to the GAA at all levels through his Club Drumgoon Éire Óg GAA, his county, Cavan and his province, and he starts his campaign with the full endorsement and support of the Ulster GAA Management Committee.
