BYE-LAW BANS BEGGING AND COLLECTIONS IN UPPER MILL STREET

Monaghan Town Council on Monday night adopted a new bye-law which deems it unlawful to any person to beg or to conduct any street collection in Upper Mill Street in the town.

The measure – advocated in the main because of complaints of people being put under undue pressure by beggars and charitable cause collectors in the area of Monaghan Post Office – will come into effect in a month’s time.

Formally proposing the adoption of the bye-law on Monday, Fine Gael councillor David Maxwell thanked the executive for having this matter sorted out so speedily. He thought it would …
