Aerial images of County Monaghan are being gathered by the Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland in order to update their series of maps. A light plane was heard in the Tydavnet area around 10:00am on Monday April 27th. Using the app Flightradar24 it was established that the plane in question was a Piper PA-31 owned by Woodgate Aviation and leased to Land and Property Services, a British government agency responsible for the Ordnance Survey office in Northern Ireland. The plane is based at Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove, Co. Antrim and took off from there around 9:10am, returning around ninety minutes later. It is equipped with high quality digital cameras.
It carried out several runs at an altitude of 6,300 ft on a west to east and then east to west axis between Tydavnet (below Aughnacloy) and across towards Glaslough, heading towards Banbridge in Co. Down, where the plane turned and re-traced its route. The survey took in the area between Tydavnet and Monaghan town, extending across towards Tyholland…
