In our August 1st issue, this newspaper carried a story on its front page about Geraldine and Michael Mooney from Castleblayney, whose quality of life had been seriously affected by the withdrawal of HSE services. The couple, who are both in their late sixties, were informed that they would no longer be attending the local CRANOG day care service because they were over 65 years of age. They also had to deal with a cut to Geraldine’s home care package, which went from five-and-ahalf hours a week to just three.
In addition, they had to cope with the introduction of a €4 charge each per day for access to a wheelchair accessible bus, despite the fact that their home on the town’s York Street is only 650 metres away from the centre they attend five-days-a-week. Happily, this week the couple have received confirmation of the reversal of two of the above decisions.
The Mooneys, and seven others, will be allowed to continue attending CRANOG four-daysa- week, also attending Íontas one-day-per-week. Geraldine, (who has Multiple Sclerosis), had her home care package restored, and Michael her husband (who suffered a serious…
