MONAGHAN CO COUNCIL MARKS EUROPEAN DAY WITHOUT A ROAD DEATH

Thursday 26th September 2016 marks European Day Without A Road Death, also known as Project EDWARD. The aim of the campaign is that no one should die on the roads of Europe on this day. All road users should take a few moments to think about the risks they face, the risks they may pose to others and how they can go about reducing those risks.

Monaghan Co Council together with members of the emergency services are proud to support Project EDWARD. Adrian O’Sullivan, Road Safety Officer with Monaghan County Council explained the purpose of the initiative: “We are all road users and we are all life savers. Small actions we take can lead to significant, life-changing improvements.

“As road users we all have the power to make a real difference by making simple choices to behave safely and responsibly every time we take to the road.” The Road Safety Officer added: “Road safety is a shared responsibility, just as our roads are a shared space. None of us has the right to behave in a way that endangers others. You may think it’s ok to drive a little bit above the speed limit, or to just have a couple of drinks and drive home or maybe to take a call on your phone whilst driving. But the tragic reality is that these actions could have serious and devastating consequences ….
