A 46-year-old local lady who received a double lung transplant on June 24th 2018 took part in this years Ladies Mini Marathon in Dulin and raised the magnificent sum of €12,360 for the Mater Foundation Transplant Unit. Carole Gilliland, who lives in Rockcorry with her husband Keith, kick started her fundraising efforts when her friends in Rockcorry organised a “Pancakes and Pastries” morning which rasied €2,200.
Speaking to The Northern Standard this week Carole said: “On June 24th 2018, I received a double lung transplant in the Mater Hospital in Dublin. When I received the phone call from the Mater Hospital informing me of a possible donor it was one of the best moments in my life. Thankfully the donor was a match for me and my surgery went ahead. I recovered very well thanks to the dedicated team in the Mater Hospital and the prayers and good intentions of so many people.
