MONAGHAN HARPS made a winning start to the Gormley uPVC SFC when they saw off an understrength Doohamlet in Clontibret last Saturday.
The Harps were never really troubled in this one against a Doohamlet side who were without injured county star Colin Walshe, as well as county minor Barry McGinn, midfielder Greg Duffy and top scorer Paul McArdle, who is in the USA.
The Harps had good performances from Emmett McArdle, Niall Hahessy, Michael Galligan and Gary White, while Martin Hughes and Niall Connolly worked hard for Doohamlet.
Points by Niall Hahessy, Shane Smyth and Emmett McArdle got the Harps off to a good start and although Ted Duffy got Doohamlet off the mark with a well-taken point, the Harps hit back with a good score from McArdle, who then turned provider for Nicholas Treanor to open his account.
Treanor added a point after good work by Michael Galligan, before Paul Rushe fired a goal chance over the bar, although Barry McBennett got one back for Doohamlet when he converted a 30-metre free for a foul on Jason McElroy.
