Monaghan’s longest serving and often controversial public representative Hughie McElvaney was lifted high by his supporters as they celebrated his victory at the local elections count centre in Threemilehouse on Sunday. The Corcaghan businessman has just completed 45 years’ service on Monaghan County Council.
As his election posters stated, he hopes his latest success will result in fifty years working with and serving the community. With six candidates chasing five seats (reduced by one because of Boundary Committee changes), one candidate had to lose out.
