Despite the repeated promises of the Minister for Health Simon Harris and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, services at Monaghan Hospital are being further cut with the announcement that Mr. Khalid S. Khan Bhambro’s Orthopaedic Outpatient Clinic has been moved from Monaghan to Cavan General Hospital from this week forward “due to unforeseen circumstances” according to notices sent out to scheduled appointment holders. Cllr. Brian McKenna has described the loss of the service as “yet another blow to Monaghan Hospital and to the people of North Monaghan in particular”.
Acknowledging that the impact will be felt across all of county Monaghan, Cllr. McKenna has stated that with “Fianna Fáil keeping Fine Gael in power” and with “their combined strength in the Dáil, this Government is happy to promise much and deliver little and is able to get away with it”. “The Confidence and Supply arrangement” stated Cllr. Brian McKenna, “is not serving the interests of either people or politics.
It has skewed the whole business of Government and accountability and has betrayed the reasonable expectations…
