There’s still no agreement on what the official name of the new offices of Ballybay Clones Municipal District at the Market House in Clones should be. At Monday’s meeting of the MD the six members remained divided in their opinion on whether to accept a recommendation from a public consultation last year.

It came out in favour of Teach Séamus Ó Conghaile (James Connolly House) after the 1916 Irish patriot, who was born in Edinburgh and had family connections with Co. Monaghan, as well as visiting the area in his capacity as a trade union organiser in 1899. Cathaoirleach Cllr Sean Gilliand had indicated at last month’s meeting that if the six members (2FG 2SF 1FF and an Inependent) could not reach unanimous agreement on the issue, he would suspend the process.

When the item was reached on the agenda this week, Cllr Gilliland said he did not want to have to suspend the matter. But there had been too many anomalies in the process, he claimed. However if they came to an agreement then…
