PATRICK KAVANAGH’S BOOKSHOP RAMPAGE

Inniskeen poet Patrick Kavanagh went on the rampage in Dublin in 1938 when his childhood memoir ‘The Green Fool’ was not stocked in the window of some of the city’s well-known book shops, according to state papers just released. Kavanagh crossed swords with the poet and author Oliver St John Gogarty, who he referred as Buck Mulligan, the name of a character given to him by James Joyce in Ulysses.
